Waukesha Wedding Photographer ~ Kara Reese Photography
Photographing this wedding from start to finish was so much fun to shoot! To start the day off, the bridal party got ready at my house! The US Golf Open was happening the same weekend as Shelby and Cole’s wedding, so we decided that my place would allow ease of transfer to the church. This was a really fun group of women, and there was so much laughing! They then took a party bus to the church to finish getting dressed.
When I heard this couple’s engagement story, I knew the wedding was going to be a special one. Shelby had gone to Florida to spend Christmas with her Grandmother, and Cole was picking her up at the airport the day after Christmas. When she came out of the terminal, Cole and her parents were there. Cole had been telling her he was planning a trip, and he’d fill her in on the details soon. He handed her a letter (which took some coercing to get her to open, she was a bit tired from travel after all!) and the last line of the letter read “Will you take this trip called life with me?” When Shelby looked up Cole was down on one knee. All of a sudden friends and family members appeared from behind chairs and newspapers, and Shelby said yes! The entire thing was filmed, so Cole’s incredible proposal was well documented.
The ceremony was at St. Anthony on the Lake Catholic Church (where my husband and I actually got married as well!). The bride and groom had a very sweet “meet around the corner and pray” moment before the ceremony, but Cole didn’t see Shelby until she was walking down the aisle. I love the photograph of Cole capturing that moment.
After the ceremony, everyone headed to Pano’s Banquet Center in Brookfield and the party got started! One of my favorite moments was coordinating with the DJ, Scott Parr, to get the entire wedding party and every single one of the guests in a shot on the dance floor. Shelby and Cole now have that on a canvas print in their living room and it was a wonderful picture to commemorate everyone who came to celebrate on their special day!
Shelby was her own wedding planner, and they had a two and a half year engagement, so she could take her time with the planning of the wedding. One thing she did that was really special was pick out a specific perfume for the day. She said she only will wear the perfume on their anniversary to remind herself and Cole of their happy day of marriage. I hope that perfume, and this gallery of pictures brings them joy for years to come!
