About the Studio
Here at Kara Reese Photography, we strive to make your senior portrait experience unlike any other. For one thing, we are pretty relatable people. You won’t feel awkward in front of us! We love to laugh, especially when we’re working and chatting with clients. We won’t ever say “Smile!”
We have studied the art of posing and know how to arrange people to make the most interesting and flattering photographs. If you are feeling unsure of your ability to “model” for us, don’t worry about it! We think even the most camera-shy of people are photogenic, and we’ll get absolutely beautiful images. But, we sympathize — we hate being in front of a camera, too, believe it or not. Kara started this photography business as a junior in high school so we remember how hard it was to find an approachable and easygoing photographer.
We offer a wide variety of awesome products, including classic standards such as canvases, framed prints, and mounted & sprayed gift prints, along with more cutting-edge and unique products such as mini accordion books, custom-designed layflat albums, custom-designed graduation announcements, and more!
We like to get to know each client before the photoshoot, and we plan out your unique-to-you session in advance, making sure that your images will be nothing but spectacular. Each experience is one-of-a-kind, and (we hope) memorable.
Hello! I’m Kara, the owner/photographer/wearer-of-many-proverbial-hats at Kara Reese Photography. I’ve had a love for photography since high school when I picked up my first film camera, and spent countless hours in my school’s darkroom watching my visions come to life. People have always been my favorite subjects. I started Kara Reese Photography at the age of 16, and now – nearly a decade later – professional photography is my full-time career and something that brings me great joy and deep fulfillment. I operate a beautiful, recently renovated 1400 square foot studio in the heart of downtown Waukesha, Wisconsin.
I’m married to my high school sweetheart and we have one child together – a beautiful little boy. We also have two loud, hairy, goofy Siberian Huskies named Loki and Mishka. In my spare time (but let’s be real, between being a mom and a full-time business owner, there’s very little spare time, ha!) I love to curl up on the couch and binge-watch Netflix (usually re-watching The Office for the hundreth time, or Grey’s Anatomy). I also practice calligraphy for fun, and like to knit on my Addi. I’m hopelessly addicted to lattes and chai, and could probably survive on chocolate alone.
But enough about me! I really want to get to know YOU – so please, shoot me an email using my contact form, and tell me about yourself and what brings you to search for a professional photographer. I’d love to meet you.
Nikki is another fabulous, well-established photogapher in the Milwaukee area who photographs weddings and couples under her brand Nikki Winter Photography, and has been Kara’s bestie for several years. Mama of 4, essential oils guru, and lover of Jesus and coffee – she’s just a fantastic and kind person and makes everyone in front of her lens feel comfortable!
Meg Ray is thrilled to be joining the Kara Reese Photography team as a studio assistant. She first fell in love with photography (and gelato) while studying Art History in Florence, Italy. After graduating from Ripon College, she joined the world of event photography. Meg grew up in Wales, WI and recently moved to Delafield. When she’s not at the studio Meg can be found reading on her screen porch. She also loves to explore museums, hike, travel, watch Chopped, and play with her Golden Retrievers, AJ and Callie.
Q: Does Kara Reese Photography offer studio portraiture?
Q: Where do you recommend going for outdoor portraits?
A: That depends on what you want to incorporate in your photos. Do you want water? Tall grass? Open fields? Forest? A combination of those elements? We will go over all of this at your complimentary client consultation.
Q: What if it rains?
A: If it’s just a few drops, we’ll keep on shooting. Same goes if it’s cloudy or looking like it might rain. However, if it starts pouring during your photoshoot, we will reschedule and try again another day (at no charge to you) or go back to my studio. I play it by ear.
Q: Do you have a limit on outfits?
A: Nope! You can do as many outfit changes as you can squeeze in during your photoshoot. I don’t charge anything extra for outfit changes.
Q: Do you charge extra for including props?
A: Again, nope!
Q: What about acne?
A: I retouch all of the poses I show my clients for skin blemishes and other things like that, so don’t worry if you have acne!
Q: Can you remove braces?
A: Yes, for an additional fee per photo.
Q: Should I tan before my photoshoot?
A: I suggest taking a break from tanning for about 2 weeks prior to your photoshoot. Otherwise, you risk looking orange (something I may not be able to fix in my editing) or having tan lines (which I can fix for an additional fee per photo).
Q: What if I wear glasses?
A: If you always wear glasses, please keep them on! I have worn glasses every day of my life since I was 10 years old (or at least I did until I had Lasik in November 2013), and I wouldn’t have looked like myself without them in my senior portraits. You won’t have to worry about glare — I know how to pose you to avoid glare. Otherwise, if you only sometimes wear glasses, we can do a few shots with them and a few shots without (or all without, if that’s what you would prefer).
Q: When will I see my photos?
A: You will see and order your photos on the same day — your ordering session day, which will take place about two weeks after your photoshoot.
Q: Do you offer payment plans?
A: Yes, I offer payment plans once you hit a certain price level.
Q: Do you deliver the Yearbook photo to our high school?
A: Yes, I take care of delivering your Yearbook photo as a courtesy to my clients.
Q: Do you sell the digital files?
A: Yes, digital files with an unlimited print release are available for purchase if that is something that you are interested in.
